Oakland Raiders: Looking Toward the 2011-2012 NFL Season

Last offseason, the vibe coming out of Raider Nation was quite, very good. Most, if not all, saw the advance that Al Davis and his Oakland Raiders had produced. They'd taken enormous actions, such as the release of former 1st overall choose JaMarcus Russell. This offseason is a bit diverse.

Fearful, yet confident might be best to describe the existing state of Raider fans. Similarly, the Raiders have a ton of free agents that need to be re-signed and also have holes across the offensive line. Add that that Al and co. don't have any first-round choose in the 2011 NFL Draft, and Oakland, we have a dilemma. But on the other hand, your very own Raider Nation has faith in Al Davis, and also the reality that Oakland's free of charge agents may be a bit more prepared to re-sign than in the past. My take? This is a a solid and productive offseason. Free of charge agents will re-sign and we'll add some solid players to the offensive line, along with a splash (Chad Ochocinco) from another team. We might even see Champ Bailey donning the Silver and Black this year as a safety.

It's my true belief that Hue Jackson will solidify the head coaching position for the next half decade and beyond. Plus, the Raiders will have a solid draft. It'll add possibly two starters. Search for Mr. Davis to make a deal for Oakland to get involved with the first round. In the normal season, a hopefully injury-free Raiders will ride an easier-than-the-Chiefs-and-Chargers schedule to the playoffs. Oakland's schedule reads, in no particular order.

Rafael Nadal Wraps Up 2010 and Schedules His 2011 Year

After productive exhibition matches for his charity a week ago, Rafael Nadal has mapped out his tournament calendar for 2011 with some new switch-ups for the new year. Nadal is playing 18 tournaments in total, including the mandatory four majors and also the eight necessary Masters Series. Based on Rafael Nadal's calendar, he is beginning the year off per day shy of 2011 in Abu Dhabi on December 31, 2010, exactly where he could meet up with rival Roger Federer.

Taking for granted Rafa's health, he will be hitting all the clay court Master events right after he won all of the events in succession and Roland Garros. Newer and more effective additions to his tour this season are the initial round of the Davis Cup in Belgium on clay and also the Barcelona Banco Sabadell tournament in March on clay. He was notably absent only at that year's Davis Cup quarterfinal, exactly where the Spanish team lost to France as they was at the Planet Cup for soccer in Africa, but he'll fight using the team to keep Spain's No. 1 ranking with 29,528.13 points. He's subtracting the Dubai Tennis Championships and also the Thailand Open.

Nadal has also been making appearances elsewhere and overall 2010 on a positive note. Nike released a brand new ad for their "Shine, shine your country" series to shed light on a challenging year, featuring Rafa along with other Spanish sports stars, like Pau Gasol, basketball player, and Andres Iniesta, soccer player.

The segment begins saying, "To those who doubt or don't think in themselves." They take the chance to recognize several men and women and the titles and championships that Spain has won this season at several various events throughout Europe. At the conclusion, Rafa ends using the tag line, "Work difficult and give it your greatest, be humble and respectful, combat the darkness and be the light they say we have lost."

Marcos Baghdatis' Weight loss and Andy Roddick's Fitness Plan For 2011

As a extremely widespread approach to start off the brand new Year, many people take it upon themselves to make a resolution to get fit. Mardy Fish transformed his physique and game this past year for a productive season. It would appear that Marcos Baghdatis and Andy Roddick, in a similar fashion, are resolved to begin 2011 proper. Marcos Baghdatis has reportedly lost approximately 10 pounds because he began rigorous training on November 14, that is about two weeks from when he a break down shoulder injury that made him take out of the Paris Masters.

Baghdatis' trainer, Andreas Nicolaou, told the ATP that, "He was 86 kg, 14.8 percent excess fat. Now he's 82.3 kg and 10 % physique fat, which is often a actually good number. The main thing would be to be stable and stay on that number of 10 percent physique fat. The development plan's to decrease the fat and increase the muscle mass, so Marcos will probably be much more powerful and more agile and faster. Converting those kilograms over to pounds, Baghdatis was about 189.6 lbs. and is now 181.four lbs. He did more than play tennis to obtain fit aerobically that consists of playing soccer, swimming, mountain biking, weight lifting, jogging, and high altitude learning the Troodos mountains of Cyprus. Diet-wise, he traded fatty and foods that are fried for steamed or grilled alternatives in healthy portions and started drinking much more water.

This year, the 25-year-old Cyprus native began the growing season successfully beating Viktor Troicki, Lleyton Hewitt, Mardy Fish, and Richard Gasquet to win his fourth career title in Sydney. Baghdatis beat Roger Federer for the first time at Indian Wells, reached semifinals in Munich and Cincinnati, and was runner-up to David Nalbandian in Washington, DC and to Troicki in Moscow. Now that he is lighter and faster, he must play effectively for his 1st 2011 tournament in Mubadala World Tennis Championship exhibition set for December 30th-January 1st and potentially convert his capability to get to the final at the 2006 Australian Open final to some win. He says, I really feel stronger in the game, I really feel more rapidly and slowly, slowly I will get much better and greater. I believe I have enhanced in all departments.

28-year-old Andy Roddick is considered to be on his way to avoid it following being on tour for twelve many his ranking wavering in and out from the top ten. Nevertheless, Roddick isn't giving up so straightforward and is stated to be working harder than ever before on his well being and fitness. Lance Hooten, Roddick's trainer, told the ATP that Roddick's aims and drive are high saying, I was going to cut him short because if he's not finishing the work out healthy then it doesn't genuinely matter. Andy looked over me and mentioned. You don't win the Australian Open by cutting brief your work outs. Even though training in Austin, Texas, he has devoted himself to explosive agility drills on court and sprinting different lengths about the track or up hill. His diet plan consists of small frequent meals through the day of vegetables, fruit, and lean proteins.

He begins the growing season at the Brisbane International on January 3 since the defending champion, winning the title last year against the prior defending champion Radek Stepanek to win his 1st ATP Tour title given that February 2009. He went on to win the Sony Ericsson Open title, exactly where he successfully beat Rafael Nadal and Tomas Berdych, but his performance sank for the rest of the year after illness and injury. To up his 2011 game, his trainer is preparing him to, "lose some weight of body fat and gain a few pounds in muscle tissues, so his physique weight has a tendency to stay around the very same, but you change the body composition. By undertaking that you have a stronger athlete, a more explosive athlete, you've an athlete who are able to withstand the rigors of his sport. Not everyone is taking the 2011 fitness challenge. Marathon runner and tennis reporter, Justin Gimelstob joked on twitter yesterday, I've conceded I'm a binge eater in my depressed state because of being held captive with this particular climate I just ate half of a pumpkin cheesecake!

Rafael Nadal Vs. Tomas Berdych, Roger Federer Vs. Robin Soderling In Abu Dhabi

(December 31, 2010) The Mubadala Planet Tennis Championships Semifinals started a day shy of the new year. Rafael Nadal faced Tomas Berdych and Roger Federer defeated on Robin Soderling, which were both rematches from 2010 major matches where the No. 1 and 2 were victorious. The final will probably be played between Nadal and Federer in the Zayed Sports City's International Tennis Complex, which will be a rematch of the recent exhibitions and ATP World Tour Finals final after Marcos Baghdatis, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Berdych, and Soderling were eliminated.

Roger Federer struggled within the very first set to Robin Soderling, but in "Federer" fashion he came back in the next two sets, 6-7 (three), 6-3, 6-3 whilst getting his revenge for the French Open loss. Meanwhile, Rafael Nadal repeated his Wimbledon strait sets win over Tomas Berdych, 6-4, 6-4. The winner of the final would likely set up the outcomes for the rest of the growing season to be in favor of Federer's or Nadal's success at the Australian Open. Though these two players have been pinned as rivals, they both admit that the outcomes each final they face could go one way or the other. Both now have career Grand Slams, and now Nadal is going for a non-calendar year Grand Slam.

In Paris, Nadal admits that their rankings do not have anything to do with who will win. "Well, I'm No. 2 in the world for five years, so I assume I am a good player, too. Positive, I will beat him. No. 2 can beat No. 1. That's the one thing. It's not lots of difference in between No. 2 with no. 1 or in between No. 1 and No. 10. That's the tennis, and also the tennis really close, the level, all the time. But I can beat him, yes. The same time frame, the issue is I beat him a lot of times on clay. I beat him on other surfaces, too. May possibly the rivalry and question for who is the accurate GOAT continue in Saturday's final in Abu Dhabi!

The 2011 Australian Open: The Last Frontier for Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal

With the dawning from the 2011 tennis season, comes the chance for several issues. Rafael Nadal has the chance to finally set himself aside from rival Roger Federer, by pulling off a win at the season opening Grand Slam in the Australian Open. For years, despite Nadal's personal lofty achievements, whether justly or unjustly, Nadal happens to be mentioned in the context of Roger Federer. To the Swiss credit, he does have 16 Grand Slam titles, several difficult to overshadow. But Nadal, who himself has compiled 9 slams of their own, and completed a career golden slam at age 24 (a notoriety which Federer is still searching for), stands on the verge of the truly historic accomplishment.

Nadal has the chance to become the very first male tennis player ever to win four consecutive Grand Slam Singles titles on four distinct surfaces. Andre Agassi fell brief with a single match from Roland Garros 1999 towards the Australian Open 2000, losing only the Wimbledon Final. Much more lately Roger Federer fell just short of a calendar Slam in 2006 and 2007, losing in france they Open Final on each occasions. Whilst Rod Laver earned the initial distinction of winning two calendar slams, three from the 4 Majors had been played on grass and also the other on clay.

Part of the exceptional nature of the modern feat would be the truth that now two of the four Majors are played on challenging courts, a surface which is a lot more grueling on the body. Indeed, it requires a very unique player and a extremely special mental outlook to complete such a feat. A second Australian Open title would mark Nadal's third hard court Grand Slam Singles title, relegating claims of his as being a mere clay court specialist to the realm of stupidity. It would also put him in a context of his personal, within the realm of accomplishment not distributed to Roger Federer. Nadal would stand by himself, and force the public to accept that we're, and also have been given that 2008 residing in the Nadal Era. Without a doubt Roger Federer will enter the Australian Open with guns blazing, feeling about a confident as he can these days. Federer did indeed win the pair's most recent official ATP encounter, a terrific three set win at the Planet Tour Finals in London. Strictly by the numbers, Federer was the hottest player on tour from following Wimbledon until the close of the season. Despite those stats, Roger would almost certainly trade his sterling match record, as well as his WTF Title for a coveted U.S. Open trophy, a bit of hardware that went to his rival Nadal. As Federer enters the twilight of his career, he's still in a position to discover motivation that most Champions begin to lack at this stage of their careers. That motivation originates from Rafael Nadal. Federer wants to beat him so badly he can taste it. Understanding full well that Nadal is and it has been playing at a level above everybody else on the tour for about a year now, the Swiss demonstrated his will to enhance by hiring former Pete Sampras coach, Paul Annacone. So far the results have been pretty excellent by Federer's lofty standards, wonderful by typical standards. But as Annacone and Federer know, ultimately the failure or success of this partnership is going to be solely based on Federer's winning Grand Slams.

Can Annacone affect enough alternation in Roger's game to make him present a stiffer challenge towards the world's finest player? The jury remains out. One positive sign for Federer is the fact that he was able to defeat Nadal in London. It was a 3 set match, and winning a decisive set against a person who enjoys a distinct mental benefit is really a giant step toward evening the rivalry. But a low bouncing-indoor court, in a best of three set-formats is really a far cry from beating Nadal inside a grueling very best of five set Grand Slam Final atmosphere. Whilst Federer's return of serve appears to be better than it ever has been, Nadal's serve seems to be greater than it ever continues to be.

Although Robin Soderling is going to be a fashionable upset choose, I don't view it happening. To me, Soderling has shown his complete hand. He threw out the kitchen sink to beat Roger Federer at Roland Garros this past year, and had a likelihood to assert himself like a Grand Slam contender by beating the person he'd dethroned the prior year, within the Final. Beating Federer and Nadal in the exact same event would have taken Soderling's confidence to the next level, and produced him a much more harmful player. He played his heart in the Final of Roland Garros, and was merely beaten by Nadal, who was merely a far better player. He'd a legitimate shot at revenge at Wimbledon a few weeks later along with the truth was confirmed once again. Finally in the U.S. Open QF a lopsided loss to Federer, it became even more apparent. Robin Soderling is a top ten player, but not a guy having a complete sufficient game to win a Grand Slam in this day and age. Perhaps five or six years ago he could have snuck a couple of in, but not now. The win's over Federer and Nadal over the past two years appear a lot more like an anomaly compared to rule. His lack of selection and movement will stall him.

Tiger Woods, Majors and also the Ryder Cup: A Review of the 2010 Golf Season

Although the title would suggest that I am likely to review 2010 in golf, I'd like to start by re-living that night of Nov. 27, 2009. As all golf fans know, this was the night when Tiger Woods, one of the biggest golfers to ever play the game, came crashing down. On a personal level, the begin of the whole saga was rather surreal. I used to be sitting enjoying a couple of drinks with university friends, and one of the subjects we discussed was who the best sportsmen in our lifetime had been.

With us all becoming about 18-25, immediately Woods name was thrown into the discussion and no 1 disagreed. Like a prospective journalist, I always like to maintain up to date with the news, so moments later I went on my telephone to check the headlines. I had been taken aback when it was revealed Tiger had been in a vehicle crash. When I heard one hour later he was fine, I thought that was the finish of it. I had been utterly stunned when stories of his affairs with countless ladies arrived on the scene, like porn stars, but let's forget about that. I would like to point out to readers that i'm a enormous fan of Woods. He has entirely transformed golf for my generation and he is among the greatest sportsmen to view every week when he plays. Nonetheless, this year meant it actually turned out to be one of many reasons why it has been a superb year for golf. What I mean by which is, many young golfers and established ones discovered hot form as Tiger lost his, and this to me was superb. It's a rarity once you get almost all the majors producing four days of excellent golf, but that's what we should got this year. Only the Open was the exception, but even then we were treated to a superb performance by Louis Oosthuizen at St Andrews.

Firstly, the Masters at Augusta was among the best in years. Naturally this was the 1st tournament where Tiger Woods came back, and a lot of men and women have forgotten he produced a fantastic performance and finished tied for fourth. However, the tournament was about Phil Mickelson, who picked up his third green jacket having a spectacular final day performance, blowing Augusta and Lee Westwood apart. Westwood is one of my favourite golfers, so it was disappointing to see him miss out once more on acquiring his initial, but Mickelson's play was merely breathtaking. Talking of breathtaking, Anthony Kim's play was spectacular as he shot a 65 on the final day to move into third location.

Next was the US Open at Pebble Beach in June. Once more, a brilliant four days of golf was produced, and a first-time main winner in Graeme McDowell from Northern Ireland emerged. Back in 2000, Woods ripped up this course, and arguably he was just about as ideal a golfer you could ever wish to determine. But these times, conditions had been tougher. McDowell had played solid golf within the very first 3 days, but have been overshadowed by American Dustin Johnson, who went to the final day 3 shots ahead. No golf fan might have predicted what occurred next, as Johnson blew track of an 82 to finish 5 shots behind McDowell. I had been also fascinated by the performance of journeyman Gregory Havret from France. While he would be a prior winner of the Scottish Open, he'd by no means carried out something in the majors till this, and to determine him outscoring Woods (an additional fourth place criminally forgotten by a lot of) was fantastic.

The Open at St. Andrews was the poorest of the majors, but still had some memorable moments, including the performance of Louis Oosthuizen. To score 18-under over the four days at among the toughest courses was a brilliant performance. The first day also saw a memorable nine-under 63 shot by Rory McIlroy, who sadly fell away with an 80 on the second day. Once again Lee Westwood, who had been struggling with a personal injury prior to the tournament, produced a powerful performance at a significant and completed second, albeit by seven strokes to worthy winner Oosthuizen. The ultimate significant of the year in August, the USPGA championship, produced the most controversy. An enthralling championship came to a controversial conclusion when Dustin Johnson (him again) was penalised two shots for apparently grounding his club in a bunker, something which to me seemed hard to think in hindsight. Nevertheless, this led to a playoff in between German Martin Kaymer and American Bubba Watson, two of golf's most thrilling young talents in 2010.

Kaymer ultimately won, having played the more sensible golf (Watson was too aggressive and found water), so the German had become the third first-time key winner this year. And finally, what a Ryder Cup we were treated to in 2010. Although it had to be extended to a Monday finish the very first time ever, this produced it better still. Coming down to the final singles match to determine the outcome was brilliant viewing which i could not take my eyes off. Every one of the 24 players contributed over the 4 days at Celtic Manor, a thing that doesn't constantly happen. The two captains, Colin Montgomerie and Corey Pavin, each instilled a lot of passion in their teams, as might be noticed with their reactions to gaining even half a point. All things deemed, Tiger Woods demise wasn't pretty to view, however it led to new talents emerging within the Majors, a thing I believed wouldn't have happened otherwise if Woods had continued to experience nicely. The Majors themselves were all enthralling in their own way and produced four worthy and different champions.

2011 PGA Tour: Appear For Young Guns To create a Splash

Nicely, the silly season of golf is officially more than. And with nothing on schedule until January three (when the Hyundai Tournament of Champions begins in Hawaii) it is time to appear ahead to the players expected to step-up in a large way during the 2011 season. Even PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem admits, I' ve never in my tenure noticed so significantly buzz and interest about rookies and young players creating exciting performances. With so significantly young talent, it is exciting to be a fan from the PGA Tour. And when discussing young talent, it's impossible to even start a conversation about young players and not mention Dustin Johnson.

Last season, the long-hitting Johnson played his way into the final group of the U.S. Open and also the PGA Championship at only 26 years old. And though those events did not finish the way Johnson imagined, it proved he could step up and play nicely in large tournaments. Search for him to be a force to become reckoned with on tour in 2011. Another player to be on the lookout for is Rickie Fowler. The long-haired kid from Southern California is coming off a rookie season by which he notched two runner-up finishes and was named Rookie of the Year. Watch for Fowler to carry that momentum into this season and get that 1st professional victory beneath his belt. Looking more in the direction of 2011 rookies, the most interesting player to watch this season may be Joseph Bramlett.

Although the former Stanford star would like to be recognized much more for his game, at the moment he is garnering headlines for being the only player on tour, besides Tiger Woods, to be of black descent. Regardless, Bramlett had a superb amateur career, and expect to see him acquire fans by playing well during the 2011 season. Along with Bramlett, another rookie to maintain an eye all through the year is Brendan Steele. In the final 3 events on the Nationwide Tour in 2010, Steele secured two top fives such as a stunning victory at the Nationwide Tour Championship. By finishing in sixth place in Q-School, Steele earned his card hard way. Be on the lookout for him to make the very best of his opportunity about the huge stage.

With Tiger Woods only four key victories from tying Jack Nicklaus record of 18, his route to golf supremacy is being challenged like never before. Be on watch for some of the young talent to stand toe to toe with Tiger, because the days of players crumbling in his presence are gone.

Tiger Woods Gets A Sour Dose of Graeme McDowell

Graeme McDowell, with that Irish sense of humor, wandered up to tournament director Greg McLaughlin Saturday night at the Sherwood Country Club as asked if it could be okay if he a minimum of Attempted to beat Tiger Woods within the final round of the Chevron Globe Challenge. After all, Tiger WAS going to win this one, wasn't he? Tiger Woods WAS going to cruise with that four-shot lead he designed for 3 days, wasn't he? Surely, even this revamped, work-in-progress version of Tiger Woods could hold on to a four-shot lead, couldn't he? An unusual thing occurred on the way to the re-anointing of the former world's No. 1 player on that dramatic Sunday at Sherwood.

Padraig harrington got Graeme McDowelled. How dare that plucky small lad from Northern Ireland? The nerve of him. Not a way Tiger Woods could blow a four-shot lead on a golf course that is created for him to feast up with those five par-five holes. Not a way Tiger could lose with adoring caddy Steve Williams publicly declaring that "The tide has turned" for his employer. An individual forgot to inform that bold little party crasher, McDowell, this is Tiger's shindig. It is his stomping ground, the course where he's won this little 18-man invite four times and seemingly completed second whenever he does not win. Sadly for Woods, whenever you appear up "ultimate grinder" within the golf dictionary, his name continues to be replaced by McDowell's, who demonstrated that at the U.S. Open. It has been a dream season for McDowell and it was a surreal finish on Sunday that ripped the flamboyant Tiger Trophy from Woods' grasp.

In the end, McDowell was folding, wasn't he? He had run Woods down, thanks in part to some of those gaffes which have annoyed Woods this season. But there was McDowell hitting his tee shot in the par three 17th into grass so high that one might lose a little child in it. The laughing lad from Ireland created one heck of the bogey and surely that might doom him and surely Woods would fittingly get that elusive win on this last day of his golf season, 2010 version. Surely, Woods would win when he hit that vintage Woods eight-iron within three feet at the 72nd hole.

No way McDowell will be brash enough to hole that 25-foot birdie putt and force Woods to bear the agony of a playoff. To make matters worse, he'd do it again on the first playoff hole. Drained an additional 20-footer for birdie, he did. The scheduled Woods march to victory had grow to be just another head-scratching moment for the world's No. 2, who need to now ponder what is coming up next. Will some other cocky European pick his pocket when victory looks so specific next year? Oh possibly it was the setting, the Sherwood property in which the vintage "Robin Hood" movie with Errol Flynn within the lead role as legendary outlaw who robbed in the rich.

Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson: What Does The near future Hold?

Despite not winning a single event and contending in under a handful, the 2010 season was about Tiger Woods. Even though you will find hundreds of other golfers on the PGA Tour?aand thousands a lot more all over the world making their living about the golf course?athe attention Woods receives every week is understandable. The guy has won 14 majors and 71 PGA Tour events. With Woods, we're witnessing the career of arguably the best golfer of all-time. Naturally, we are going to be considering everything he does on and off the golf course.

Not following Woods each and every move will be like not paying attention to Muhammad Ali or Michael Jordan in the course of their primes. But with all of the hoopla surrounding Woods for most of the 2010 season, the tumultuous season of this generation's second most profitable player was lost in the shuffle. Phil Mickelson won the Masters in early April, but followed his fourth major championship victory with one of the worst stretches of golf he's experienced in his career. On top of his struggles on the course, Mickelson's wife and mother remained as going by means of grueling cancer treatments whilst Mickelson himself was dealing with a career threatening well being problem.

At the PGA Championship at Whistling Straights, Mickelson announced that he had been suffering from severe joint pain prior to the U.S. Open, coupled with lately been diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis. Any time you win the Masters, the entire year is really a success, particularly for Mickelson whose career is all about significant championships at this point. But remove those four magical days in April and there's cause to be concerned about Mickelson's game, or even more than Woods game. Following his win at Augusta, Mickelson finished second to Rory McIlroy at the Quail Hollow Championship. From that point forward, Mickelson posted just three top-10s within the next seven months, and went 1-3-0 at the Ryder Cup, thus securing him a much undesirable title?athe player using the most losses in U.S. Ryder Cup history. Aside from a T-4 finish at the 2010 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach, the final seven months of the season had been one extended nightmare for Mickelson.

Like Woods, Mickelson can also be at a career crossroads. Mickelson turned forty-years old final June, and with four majors and 32 PGA Tour wins, he's proper on the cusp of getting into the category of really fantastic players. If Mickelson were to get at six majors and 45 PGA Tour wins during the Tiger Woods era, he could probably be deemed 1 of the top-10 golfers of all-time. Only 11 men would have won far more major championships ,and just seven males would have won a lot more PGA Tour events.

If Mickelson is on the decline and in no way wins another key, properly, then he'd most likely fall under a category the likes of Jimmy Damaret, Raymond Floyd, Billy Casper and Vijay Singh?- which is far cry from being grouped using the likes of Tom Watson, Arnold Palmer, Sam Snead and Gene Sarazen. Within the next few years, most of the attention it's still focused on Woods, as he is after a far greater achievement than Mickelson?amost key championship wins of all-time. But, in Mickelson we have yet another player chasing down history. Mickelson has a legitimate chance to push himself right into a new stratosphere in terms of how he'll be remembered in this game.

Tiger Woods' Troubles Spawn Graeme McDowell's Magical 2010 PGA Season

When Padraig harrington crashed his SUV, at 2:30 a.m. in the morning on Nov. 27, 2009, it completely changed the lives of two expert golfers: Tiger himself, and Graeme McDowell. Right now, every person knows the Tiger story of infidelity, sex addiction rehab, lost endorsements, divorce and also the apparent loss of the unbelievable talent that has allowed him to win 14 majors and 71 PGA Tour events. Even so, not everybody knows the other side of the story, or the silver lining, for a moment.

The then 30-year-old Graeme McDowell from Northern Ireland was the 55th ranked player in the world, and was playing the World Cup in China when he learned about the shocking allegations of Tiger Woods' planet falling apart. He'd planned to head home to Florida, and go ahead and take rest of the year off, when he was agreed to take Tiger's location within the Chevron World Challenge, hosted annually by Woods. McDowell was a surprising addition to the tournament, as normally invites received to the defending champion, the very best 11 players within the planet, and four sponsors exemptions. 2009 seemed to be the 1st year that the tournament counted for world ranking points. McDowell took benefit of his opportunity, and placed second, just behind Jim Furyk, which vaulted him to 38th on the planet, and secured him a location inside the 2010 Masters.

Although G-Mac, and that he is often referred to as, struggled to some plus-five and missed cut in the Masters, he managed to remain in the top-50 rankings, and earned an invitation to the US Open. When the pressure was off, of securing his place in the US Open, McDowell won the ecu Tour's Wales Open on June 6, then headed to Pebble Beach. McDowell began strong, and held charge going into the weekend, prior to Dustin Johnson shot the lights on Saturday, and G-Mac was second heading to the final round.

Johnson was plus-five in the first three holes to fallout of contention, and McDowell found himself alone in top spot. He avoided Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, who had been chasing him from two and four strokes behind, respectively, and fended off late challenges from 1994 and 1997 champion Ernie Els, and comparatively unknown French player Gregory Havret. McDowell increased the rankings to 13th in the world with his US Open victory, after which just kept climbing. In the 2010 Ryder Cup, held at Celtic Manor Resort, in Wales, McDowell took 3 and a half of a feasible 4 points, like sinking the Cup-winning putt for Team Europe! On Oct. 31, McDowell wrapped in the Andalucia Valderrama Masters, and in December was named the ecu Tour Player of the Year, together with German Martin Kaymer.

McDowell's magical season wrapped up, back where it all started, Tiger's Chevron Planet Challenge at Sherwood Nation Club, in stunningly ironic fashion. Tiger looked like the Tiger of old, posting three straight rounds within the 60s to open the tournament, and going for a four-shot lead into the final day. Tiger had never lost a lead of 3 or even more strokes on a Sunday, and several assumed it was more than. G-Mac had other ideas, and made an incredible 20-foot birdie putt on the 18th to make a playoff with Woods. About the initial playoff hole, McDowell sunk one more miraculous putt from 25 feet, and, when Woods missed from 15 feet, the championship was his! Woods was kept from winning a tournament all season, the very first time in his career, and helped generate possibly his most dangerous foe. McDowell wouldn't have even qualified for the US Open if it hadn't been for that shocking downfall of Woods, and the now seventh ranked golfer on the planet looks to be a threat for years to come.

BCS National Championship: Why Cam Newton Will Feed the Ducks His Daily Bread

No college team can cease Cam Newton. They only hope to have the ability to contain him. That's the mantra, but exactly what does Oregon take into consideration it? I'll let you know at the end of this piece. Breaking defenses off such as the pieces from the loaves Jesus and the disciples fed the multitudes with, Newton has followers. With numerous accolades and magnificent plays in tow, like George Bush, history is going to be his judge. For the BCS National Championship, the University of Oregon Ducks will attempt to judge him and his Auburn University Tigers. They square off on Jan. 10 in Glendale, Arizona. For the 2nd straight year, finalists for that Heisman face 1 an additional in the national title game. Last year, it was Colt McCoy and the Texas Longhorns against Mark Ingram from Alabama. This season, the host facility of the Fiesta Bowl will be quacking and roaring at the same time.

Second to none within the nation in no-huddle offense tempo, the Ducks are known for their frenzy. They really like playing in a frenetic pace, speedily snapping the ball after plays end. Scoring 49 points per game, they lead the Football Bowl Subdivision. This will work for ratings, though, as this might be 1 of the highest-scoring national championship games ever. The Ducks and their scoring machine and Heisman finalist tailback, LaMichael James, will try to restore some honor. The Pac-10 won the following to last national championship prior to the SEC went on its run. The Large 12 (Texas) won the national championship in 2005. Since 2006, whether Large Ten or Big 12 team continues to be the runner-up (Ohio State twice, Oklahoma and Texas as soon as). At nearly 153 yards per game, James led the FBS in rushing yards per game. He also led America in rushing touchdowns (21). With 20 rushes for scores, Cam Newton wasn't far behind.

Can he do it? Naturally he can. Opponents know it. "We've talked about Cam," Alabama Crimson Tide linebacker Dont'a Hightower stated. "But they have other guys." Other guys like receivers Darvin Adams and Emory Blake will contribute for that Tigers?ano doubt. Coach Nick Saban from the Tide is really a witness. "It takes plenty of discipline for everyone to complete precisely what they're supposed to do and be where they're said to be. Simply because they attack the perimeter just as efficiently as they do the interior," he stated. "On every play, you need to be sound in every single location. In the backfield flanking Newton are Michael Dyer and/or Onterio McCalebb. Dyer broke loose for 859 yards this year, breaking Bo Jackson's Auburn freshman record. Running and rolling off tackles like thunder, Dyer compliments the lightning speed of sophomore Onterio McCalebb. To finish it off, Auburn's offensive line has over 150 collective career starts.

In Darron Thomas, Oregon has another dynamic quarterback. He could be a Heisman finalist each year or so. The Ducks must be really centered on delivering him with a clean pocket against Auburn's 105th-ranked passing defense. Oregon pass defense ranked No. 56. The ranks of each team's passing defense are pedestrian. This might be on account of their opponents having to pass the ball to catch up, and reserves playing big minutes. Sharvin Bell is a hybrid defensive back from Kissimmee, Florida. A starter, he makes large plays on defense. The sophomore had a big sack against Alabama and was all around the field. Within the SEC Championship, he picked up a pick-six.

2011 Fiesta Bowl: Does Connecticut Stand a Chance Against Oklahoma?

Analysts, radio hosts and commentators have been clamoring about this game becoming one to watch. It makes 1 wonder what all of the noise surrounding this matchup is about. It is, after all, the Fiesta Bowl?athe BCS Fiesta Bowl. Featuring the storied Oklahoma Sooners and also the attempting for an upset and upstart University of Connecticut Huskies, this game is high-quality entertainment. Prime time on New Year's Trip to 8:30 p.m. at University of Phoenix Stadium, the haters and the hopefuls will witness history. UConn will have in its first BCS bowl game. The Huskies might be motivated by the opportunity to prove the Big East deserves to be a BCS conference.

A decisive win by Oklahoma could raise eyebrows and speculation against the BCS as a worthy football competitor. Oklahoma will have in it for the third amount of time in 5 years. They are the mighty Sooners, but they've lost five bowl games consecutively. Connecticut understands they are the underdog, however they place their pads on the same as Oklahoma. That being mentioned, have they got a opportunity to pull the upset having a field aim to end the overall game? Keep reading and ask yourself, otherwise, I'll tell you. Oklahoma has possibly the preeminent program in America. Once again, they finish up in a situation exactly where losing to a massive underdog will bring national mock and scorn. The Boise State Broncos shocked the Sooners and also the BCS planet within the 2006 Fiesta Bowl.

3 years later, it'll be the Huskies (8-4, 6-6) rolling their sleeves up and getting following Oklahoma. Like the Broncos, they'll be hopeful of making a name off the Sooners. In their blue and white uniforms, Connecticut gets it in the blue-collar way?aground and pound?arunning the rock to daylight. Who can blame them? Not Sooners coach Bob Stoops. He wishes he'd Connecticut's running game. In terms of individual rushing yards per game, they have America's second leading running back, Jordan Todman. As a junior this season, he gained 1,574 yards rushing and scored 14 touchdowns. DeMarco Murray rushed for 1,121 yards and 14 touchdowns, averaging 86 yards per game as Oklahoma's leading rusher.

Pass offense, though, is what separates these two programs in this thriller. Like Oklahoma State, Oklahoma has among the best passing games inside the FBS. With one of the weakest passing games amongst main colleges, Connecticut averages 145 yards per game?aabout just like Todman's rushing yards per game common (143.09). Todman trailed only LaMichael James, who averaged 153 yards per game for that Oregon Ducks. UConn's quarterbacks had better duck when the Sooners pass rush comes after them.

Holiday Bowl 2010: How Nebraska Football Will Keep Washington Leashed

On paper, this looks like the biggest mismatch in the bowl season apart from Oklahoma-UConn. Nebraska came in 1st spot inside the Huge 12 North and Washington completed the season in third spot in the Pacific-10. Having thumped Washington, 56-21, in September, the large and bold Nebraska Cornhuskers will attempt to get it done once more. Their opponents would totally love to pull an upset. Whenever a bully comes back around, the victim faces large decisions?astand up or be stomped on. Throngs of fans from Nebraska is going to be in town to see if the Huskers can thump Washington twice.

Reside from North park, at 10 p.m. EST, Qualcomm Stadium's lights will shine on Dec. 30 within the Vacation Bowl. A senior quarterback and leader on offense, Jake Locker's Huskies career can finish after that evening. He faced the ferocious Huskers defense captured. On Sept. 18, they met, and also the score doesn't actually indicate the whipping Nebraska gave Washington. Since that time, the Huskies think they are improved and they're out for revenge. Whether they are saying it publicly or not, there is a bad taste in their mouths in the Cornhuskers' dirt. It was flying in their faces in the course of the clouds of dust the Nebraska offense compiled on the strategy to the end zone. Within their very first meeting this season, Nebraska was ranked No. 8 within the nation. Massive Red went to Seattle and opened up a can of I-backs on the Washington Huskies. Right after the game, they were given out of town and flew back to Lincoln with a 3-0 record. Washington lost inside a blowout and was severely bogging down at 1-2. They were inside a daze in the wake of the Huskers' running game.

Taylor Martinez ran for three touchdowns and 137 yards and added 150 yards passing. He broke off an 80-yard touchdown about the very first play of the other half. When he did it, off a fake dive play, the score was 28-14. He managed to get 35-14 and also the rout was on. Roy Helu II also dashed in the future towards the finish zone party. He racked up 110 yards and two touchdowns on yet another dazzling I-back sprint for a score. On a run of 65 yards and one for eight, he had a highlight-reel game. Rex Burkhead added 104 yards and a 19-yard dash for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Mike Leach to Coach Maryland Terrapins: Can He Remedy What Ails the Terps?

For any weekend that didn't see a single bent blade of field grass, it sure was a wild couple of days for the Maryland football team. Let's recap. Friday morning, Maryland's offensive coordinator and previously designated "coach in waiting" James Franklin headed for Nashville, where he put weeks of speculation to relax upon being named the new head coach at Vanderbilt. Friday afternoon, rumors lit in the Maryland finish of the internet with predictions that athletic director Kevin Anderson would ask coach Ralph Friedgen to retire. Saturday afternoon, those rumors proved appropriate, as word dropped that Fridge had accepted a buyout from the final year of his contract. Saturday evening, reports surfaced naming former Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach as Friedgen's successor.

Here we are. Even though Leach's hire is not a done deal, Maryland is gunning for him with both barrels. Leach has stated prior to that he is "willing to talk to anybody" in regards to a coaching job, and presumably Maryland would be in a especially great position to have his ear, given that Leach is tight with Kevin Plank, a Maryland alum, board member and owner of a little company named Under Armour. (As an aside, Plank might be poised to become to Maryland what Phil Knight and Nike are towards the University of Oregon, and facilitating this type of flashy hiring would surely be a feather in his cap. Only time will inform how that can ultimately shake out, even though in the meantime, please buy Under Armour!) The most immediate question, needless to say, is no matter whether the controversial Leach may be the right man for this job. The way I see it, Maryland is fighting a two-front war here: among actual football, and 1 of public opinion.

In terms of Xs and Os, the Terps could potentially thrive under Leach's high-flying vertical passing attack. With Leach in the helm, Texas Tech completed second within the nation in passing in 2009 and first in 2008, averaging about 40 points per contest in the course of those two campaigns. By comparison, this year Maryland finished 65th within the nation for passing yards, and from 2008-2010 scored a relatively paltry 24.6 points per game. But adding 16 points per game for your output isn't as simple as just transplanting coaches. The Terps are losing primetime receiver Torrey Smith and several senior receivers, while ACC offensive rookie of the year Danny O'Brien appears as much as the challenge Leach's offense would present under center. Hopefully wideouts Ronnie Tyler, Adrian Coxson and a new crop such as Nigel King and Marcus Leack could pick up the slack when the older guys depart. Nonetheless, this option are largely untested. An much more pressing question is no matter whether Maryland's offensive line can boost adequate to give the passing game a chance to work. The Terrapin backfield is also uncertain, with the unit's only proven receiving choice, Da'rel Scott, graduating and no genuine threat having emerged at tight finish (though Will Yeatman indicates flashes).

As most fans know, nevertheless, to speak about Leach's on-field exploits is to tell only half the storyline. Because, let's see, how must i place this, the dude is crazy. According to the linked write-up from the Ny Instances, Leach can be a rambling eccentric, "a walking parenthesis, without a companion to bracket his stray thoughts." The article tells the tale of the time when Leach, right after a team loss, lectured players for 3 hours?athat's 180 minutes?aabout pirates. Pirates? But at the same time, he is portrayed as an individual who could possibly get players to run by means of a brick wall for him. Interesting. Oh, and there's that entire locking-a-player-in-a-closet issue. Oh, yeah, that. That's what got him run out of Lubbock, though in a lawsuit that is still very much ongoing, Leach claims it was a wrongful termination, which the powers that be at Texas Tech were simply looking for a reason to fire him because they all hated him and were looking for a reason to let him go. Oh, OK. Also, over Thanksgiving he slapped a libel and slander suit on ESPN. So he's got that opting for him, too. 1 excellent sign on this front is that Leach has been living in Key West this past year. He's just as crazy as always apparently, although maybe (and hopefully) a little more mellow as a result (if Key West can't help you in that region, I don't know what will).

But as far as the PR battle goes, Leach's filterless make of coach-babble (remember such hits as "fat small girlfriends?") will play well with fans and media, but only so long as the team is winning and that he does not, you know, lock anybody in a closet. And to be particular, the higher Washington D.C. area is going to be placing a couple of much more microphones in the face than he encountered within the Texas panhandle. Which brings me to my final point. Maryland athletic director Kevin Anderson should have watched with bemusement (at best) as Friedgen's Terps racked up an 8-4 record, but accomplished it in front of a partially empty home stadium. The 54,000-seat Byrd Stadium averaged 39,167 fans for his or her six residence games, in support of broke the 40,000 mark twice (against Florida State and home opener Morgan State). It had been the poorest showing since 2002 and, in an age when ticket sales matter for all sorts of reasons (like bowl placement, for better or worse, and I've said my piece on that), you need to put the backsides in the seats. The Terps played pretty much this year, completing a key turnaround from their 2-10 performance in 2009 and earning Friedgen the ACC's Coach of the Year award within the procedure. But it was anything but exciting. At the very least within the games Maryland won.

That can bring us back to Leach. No denying that the guy is an thrilling presence each off and on the field. But at this point, it appears he might be just a little too exciting. To this point, he hasn't proven he can comport himself in a expert (or lawful) manner from the field. And though his passing scheme has rightly drawn lots of praise, it's not a lock (at least not for me) that Leach can easily plug himself into Maryland's roster and instantly start producing 50-point games. I'd rather not be a Negative Nelly right out of the gate, and I'm positive Maryland will reap some benefits from this hiring. But simultaneously, I feel it is fairly reliable advice Leach hasn't carried out sufficient to generate the benefit of the doubt. .

Justin Wilcox to Texas? Top five Reasons Tennessee Def. Coordinator Really should Stay

There are numerous message boards lighting up all through the internet about Justin Wilcox finding yourself in doable negotiations with Texas about the defensive coordinator position. He is currently in a three-year deal worth $600,000, so there is almost certainly absolutely nothing that Texas couldn't do as far luring him away with dollars. Tennessee is in a rebuilding phase, that has forced Wilcox to dig into his bag of tricks a lot more this year. 1st of all he has had to complete positions which have little or no depth. For example, Marsalis Teague played wide receiver last year but had to move to cornerback.

It seems the defensive line has been continuously shuffled around due to no depth at defensive tackle. Luckily Malik Jackson transferred from USC (thanks for kicking Lane Kiffin inside the ribs, Malik!) last year. Funny thing is he came to Tennessee as a rush end, a sack master if you will. Nevertheless, he has supplied the only real depth in the interior defensive line. You never know who will line up beside him from play to play? It is a crapshoot. Among the beginning safeties, Brent Brewer, would be a minor league baseball player prior to coming in final year, and he's 23 years of age. So it's understandable to be frustrated with no players 1 desires to construct a defense.

One rumor is that he isn't precisely jiving with defensive line coach Chuck Smith. Smith, a Tennessee alum, includes a fantastic reputation of training NFL defensive linemen given that retiring from the Pro Bowl-filled career. The only problem would seem is he has trained men and women individually and could not get the entire "work like a unit" idea but in his young coaching career. Smith was a Derek Dooley hire, and I do not see old Chuck going anywhere, even if it means losing his defensive coordinator. Too much history there with them becoming high school buddies and all, plus it seems the defensive ends have been one of the few bright spots this year on defense. Within the following slides would be the top 5 reasons Wilcox must stay in Knoxville. Please feel free of charge to comment.

USC Football: Trojans Ought to Use Spread Offense in 2011 Due to Offensive Line

High school signing day on February 2 is still over six weeks away as well as the USC Trojans are doing really properly with 16 committed recruits plus six early enrollees who have already signed, with much more expected soon. The two junior college and 4 senior high school early enrollees will be available for spring practice and don't count against the 20-scholarship limit* for 2011.

USC is rated close to the top in football recruiting and is likely to finish in the top five again having a significantly bigger class (as much as 30 new scholarship athletes) than past years. But, USC needs offensive linemen (OL) more than any other position as well as the numbers up to now have been disappointing. So far, you will find only 3 offensive linemen who've committed: David Garness (signed) and commits Marcus Martin and Cody Temple. The Trojans consist of an excellent quarterback, receivers and running backs. Nonetheless, these skill players cannot execute when they don't get the blocking to open holes or give the QB time to come across open receivers.

If the offense cannot preserve drives and employ up the clock, then it puts too much pressure on the defense, this spends an excessive amount of time on the field. This normally creates a defensive breakdown within the other half. The defense is going to be far better in 2011, as discussed in "USC Football: 2011 Trojans Is going to be Led by QB Matt Barkley and Better Defense." But, no USC team has ever performed well without a good OL which includes backups. So something must change for a effective 2011 season.

Right after practice on Oct. 21, Lane Kiffin asserted on account of personnel in 2011 season, the Trojans might use a spread offense. Kiffin told Gary Klein from the L.A. Occasions. Look at what we have. We've got a bunch of great receivers and backs and tight ends and we don't have a fullback on our roster that's on scholarship two months from now.

Ricky Nolasco Officially Signs Long-Term Deal to remain with Florida Marlins

The Florida Marlins have officially announced the signing of right-handed pitcher Ricky Nolasco to a three-year, $26.5 million contract extension. The 28-year-old went 14-9 with a 4.51 ERA and missed the ultimate month right after undergoing arthroscopic appropriate knee surgery when he tore his meniscus. In the deal, Nolasco is expected to earn $6 million in 2011, $9 million in 2012 and $11.5 million in 2013, his would-be very first year of free agency.

He earned $3.8 million final season and was because of get a pay raise in the neighborhood of $6 million had both gone to arbitration. Based on the Connected Press, Nolasco stated in a conference call with reporters he has been running and exercising without any setbacks: "I really should be 100 percent by spring training." Nolasco went 54-39 having a 4.45 ERA in five years with the Marlins, and his strikeout-walk ratio of 638-169 over that time is among the most effective in baseball. "I couldn't request anything else from these guys," Nolasco stated. "It helps you to just go on the market and not worry about the arbitration approach." The signing of Ricky Nolasco solidifies a starting rotation that's expected to be among the National League's elite.

Nolasco is expected to be slotted second behind ace Josh Johnson (11-6 having a 2.30 ERA) and in front of newly signed pitcher Javier Vazquez (15-10 having a 2.38 ERA when he final pitched within the National League in 2009) and pitchers Anibal Sanchez (13-12 having a 3.55 ERA) and Chris Volstad (12-9 with a four.58 ERA; 8-1 within the second half).

Colorado Rockies Acquire Matt Lindstrom From Houston Astros

May it be starting rotation support or bullpen help, the Colorado Rockies have been searching for any type of pitching support this offseason. The Rockies happen to be linked to Grant Balfour, Jon Rauch, Todd Coffey and David Aardsma at different occasions. While the Rockies still may well acquire one of those relievers, on Thursday, they traded for an additional reliever.

The Rockies acquired RHP Matt Lindstrom from the Houston Astros for minor league pitchers Jonnathan Aristil and Wes Musick. Lindstrom was traded in the Florida Marlins to the Astros final offseason, so this experience is absolutely nothing new for him. I am going to have to be honest: I don't see Lindstrom working out all that nicely in Colorado. Does a power arm who's truly not a strikeout pitcher and doesn't throw ground balls ever work out in Colorado? The answer to that question, my friends, is no.

I just can't see Lindstrom being anything further than a guy who comes into a game title within the sixth or seventh inning once the Rockies are either up by five runs or down by 5 runs. I wouldn't pay $2 million and trade two prospects (even when they just had been fringe prospects) for your sort of pitcher.

Generally I hop on the Rockies' bandwagon any probability I recieve, but I actually haven't liked several things they've carried out this offseason. I didn't realize the Troy Tulowitzki extension, I'm not a fan of Jorge de la Rosa and I thought they must have created much more of an effort to sign or trade for an additional top-tier pitcher. The Rockies could still perform some points this offseason, but right now I don't see them finishing higher than the San Francisco Giants or La Dodgers inside the National League West.

MLB Rumors: Will the New York Yankees Actually Create a Play for Manny Ramirez?

Jack Curry of the YES Network tweeted recently how the Yankees are having internal discussions about obtaining free-agent outfielder Manny Ramirez. What else is new? For those of you who know anything about baseball, you will know you can always count on the Yankees to make gives to huge ticket players every offseason, no matter whether that be via trades or free of charge agency. Take Mark Teixeira as a wonderful example.

At the finish from the 2008 season, there had been lots of teams making a run at Teixeira, who was fresh off a phenomenal stand as a Los Angeles Angel. The word was the Boston Red Sox had been closing in on the deal with the star initial baseman, once the Yankees came in and upped the deal by $15 million. These kinds of issues are typical of the Yankees. This is exactly why folks included them within the initial trade conversations surrounding Cliff Lee this off season, so in retrospect they have been linked with Manny Ramirez for fairly a whilst. The tweet just confirmed as proven fact that what had all assumed true at this point.

Ramirez has a extended history using the Boston Red Sox, which adds sort of vengeful tinge to the possibility, but aside from that, Ramirez can be a confirmed All-Star, the type of guy the Yankees would like to have. With nine Silver Slugger awards, 12 All-Star selections, along with a World Series MVP, Ramirez has a list of accolades that could fit proper in with the star energy about the Yankees roster. He would offer experience of the outfield, which could possibly be beneficial with younger guys like Brett Gardner.

At the end of the day, no matter how slim folks say the odds are, don't count the Yankees out. They have a penchant for deep pockets, and picking up one more star player would fit right in with their pattern of organization, especially ever since they were unable to pick up Cliff Lee (which makes it even more clear that they've the money to throw about).

No Cliff Lee, No Worries For Yankees, But Questions Still Looming For Rotation

The Yankees is going to be fine without Cliff Lee. The Yankees don't Need Cliff Lee. Would they've liked to have signed him? Of course. Who wouldn't have? Having C.C. Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, a 19-game winner in Phil Hughes and possibly Andy Pettitte should be sufficient for the Yanks. They have a young pitcher in Ivan Nova who, if he fixes his sixth inning troubles, ought to be a solid pitcher.

And if Pettitte doesn't return, which appears to be the case, there are a few alternatives for filling his spot in the rotation. Based on Bryan Hoch of MLB.com, "If spring arrived these days, Ny would head into camp with a group of largely unpredictable candidates to complete the rotation, headlined by Ivan Nova and Sergio Mitre and then much less most likely options among Andrew Brackman, Dellin Betances, Adam Warren, Hector Noesi and Manny Banuelos. Basically, the Yankees goes on with their plans with out Pettitte.

Using the acquisition of Luis Vizciano looking to be a mistake in the producing, fans must remember that he only signed a minor league deal. No problem. Speaking of minor league deals, the signing of former Cubs ace Mark Prior seemed to be a shock to a lot of Yankee fans. The signing of Pedro Feliciano appears like an excellent move, seeing as the Yankees had been a little desperate for a southpaw in the 'pen. Like a Mets reliever in 2010, Feliciano posted a three.30 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in 62.2 innings. The purchase of catcher Russell Martin might be regarded as a great signing. Martin is a great defensive catcher, which the Yankees are desperate for using the lack of defense and energy in Francisco Cervelli with Jorge Posada moving to the full-time DH position. Martin had a 39 percent caught stealing percentage, instead of Cervelli's 14 percent.

Martin's defense behind home plate is a positive. But another thing the Yankees can appear forward to is the two catching prospects in Austin Romine and Jesus Montero. Two guys that Yankee fans happen to be waiting, some say too long, to see. GM Brian Cashman is pretty much particular he will not quit Montero for anything. The Yankees missing Carl Crawford isn't a terrible loss, either. Brett Gardner has the talent. They each had 47 SB this year. Gardner matches Crawford's speed. No doubt. But Crawford's bat is a little much better. Gardner is much better at working the count and taking pitches than Crawford. Gardner had 79 walks to Crawford's 46.

Simply because the Yankees didn't make big deals like they did last year doesn't mean it's going to be an unsuccessful season. There is no need to panic, Yankee fans. They have the talent. You'll be able to obtain a Mark Teixeira, C.C. Sabathia along with a.J. Burnett trio each and every offseason. The Yankees want to get an additional core. Say Cano, Gardner, Nova, Russo, Montero, Golson, Banuelos, Cervelli, Nunez, and so on?-? Take your pick. Regrettably, the only real mistake. they seemed to have created this offseason ended up being to place all their eggs in the Lee basket. But don't count them out of next season. The Yankees will be fine. They're the Yankees after all.
